An artist who hardly needs an introduction, Emmylou Harris is truly one of the most loved and respected recording artists in America. Her career has soared in its near 40-year span of top selling and critically acclaimed releases. Her solo career would be impressive on its own, but it grows legendary when you see the list of contemporaries who have been drawn to her sweet voice and intimate lyrics for collaborations. Artists she has collaborated with include Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Elvis Costello, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Bright Eyes, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Trish Yearwood, Lucinda Williams and Graham Parsons.

Many view Emmylou Harris as the most influential woman in Country music and her honors back that up. She was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame (2008), American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2009) and received an honorary doctorate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music (2009).  In addition to her 12 Grammy wins, she received a Golden Globe for Best Original Song – “A Love that Will Never Grow Old” (Brokeback Mountain).

Her latest album Hard Bargain comprises 11 new songs by Harris plus covers of songs by Ron Sexsmith and producer Jay Joyce. Two songs look back at relationships that were central to Harris' creative life—with Kate McGarrigle and Gram Parsons. Among these other songs with deep personal roots, “Big Black Dog,” with its loping canine-like rhythms, is a true tale about a black lab mix named Bella. Harris, who runs a dog shelter called Bonaparte’s Retreat on her property, rescued Bella from the Nashville Metro pound and provided an especially happy ending to her story: “She goes on the tour bus with me now, along with another one of my rescues. I think of all the years on the road I wasted without a dog. They make it so much more pleasant. I’m making up for lost time now, that’s for sure.” One dollar of each ticket sold will go to Bonaparte's Retreat.
