The world’s first roller derby zombie romantic comedy will premiere on Halloween at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre. 8 WHEELS OF DEATH was written, directed, filmed, and edited entirely in Bloomington and features skaters from the local roller derby league, the Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls (BHRG), among its cast.
Written by Bloomington residents Tony Brewer and directed by videographer Chris Rall, 8 WHEELS OF DEATH is inspired by grindhouse flicks of the ’70s as well as contemporary B-movie horror films, plucky underdog sports dramas, and cheesy romantic comedies. The movie also stars Cardinal Stage Company actor Mike Price, Kelly McBride, Jeremy No, Tamera Marshall, Tom Harold, Christopher Abert as Chad, and introducing Miss Lotta Trouble as Lola.
Brewer and Rall, as well as cinematographer Steve Llewellyn and sound designer Kevin Evans, first collaborated to produce commercials for the 2009 season of the Bleeding Heartland Roller Girls. They began filming 8 WHEELS OF DEATH in August of that year. Makeup artist Matt “Baldy” Traughber and assistant director Brendan Mayhugh round out the core production crew. Chris Rall also enlisted the help of veteran horror movie producer and editor Pittman (PackingHouse Films).
DVDs of 8 WHEELS OF DEATH will be available for sale at the premiere, just in time for Halloween.
