About Us

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater is owned by the City of Bloomington and operated by BCT Management, Inc., a private non-profit organization.  The mission of BCT Management, Inc. is to develop the Buskirk-Chumley Theater as a high quality and widely accessible community resource and performance venue, operated in a fiscally responsible manner.  Support from the City of Bloomington, Indiana University, the Indiana Arts Commission, our many corporate sponsors and community donors  helps maintain this historic community resource and bring a wide diversity of programming to the stage each year.

Support from the community is essential to making the full vision of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater a reality. Your financial support (including planned gifts through your estate) provides local artists with access to a professional venue, brings nationally-known performers to south-central Indiana, and provides a place for community members to gather for education, entertainment, and inspiration.

The 65+ presenting organizations and artists who utilize the BCT and the BCT Box Office each year:

* give children early theater- and concert-going experiences;
* support the creativity of artists at all levels of accomplishment;
* raise funds for schools and social services;
* bring IU and Ivy Tech students into community-based performance space; and
* literally light up Bloomington’s downtown.

As a resource, educator, supporter, and producer, as well as a sustainable business, the theater provides a stage for Bloomington’s communal voice. Your financial support will strengthen that voice.

Save Your Seat:
More than half of the armrest in the Theater are already engraved with names of BCT supporters. Your name can be among them when you make a gift of $500 or more. You can also engrave an armrest in honor of someone else; they make wonderful wedding, anniversary, and birthday gifts.

Make a Gift Through Your Estate Plan:
You can help to ensure the BCT's programming and services to the community continue far into the future by including us in your estate plan. The two easiest options are listed here but many more options are available. Consulting your legal or financial adviser for more information.

Bequests: Giving to the BCT through your will or trust is one of the simplest ways to make an estate plan gift. When making a bequest, you might want to use this sample language: I hereby leave [percentage of estate/dollar amount/residue of estate/percentage of residue] of my estate to BCT Management Inc., a not-for-profit corporation in Bloomington, Indiana, (EIN: 35-2146138) to be used for the benefit of the organization in such manner as the board of directors may elect.

Retirement Beneficiary: Because retirement plan assets are subject to heavy taxation, they are popular for charitable giving. If your IRA, TIAA-CREF, 401k or other qualified plans pass through your estate, your heirs must pay income taxes as they receive distributions. As a tax-exempt organization, BCT Management, Inc. will benefit from 100% of your retirement asset donation. Consider leaving a percentage - 1% or 100% - of your retirement assets to BCT Management, Inc. or name BCT Management, Inc. as an alternative or contingent beneficiary on your plan.
